SUSAN BAIRD

Susan Baird was one of those kids who loved to draw. That lifelong interest in drawing developed into a passion for painting. She enjoys studying the techniques of the Old Masters and Impressionists, then interpreting them with contemporary subject matter.
"Almost all my ideas come from real life. I like to paint things I actually see or experience: a jazz brunch at a local restaurant, a favorite bartender or waiter, seashells or antique porcelain I've collected. There is usually a mood or quality of light I'm wanting to convey."
Susan intends to be a student of painting all of her life. She's had the opportunity to attend workshops with nationally recognized artists including Kenn Backhaus, Robert Johnson, Greg Kruetz, David Leffel, and Leonard Wren. She has also studied with accomplished Alabama artist, John Lonergan.
Her drawings and paintings have been exhibited in the annual Alabama Symphony Show Home for the past six years. She shows her work at Artists Incorporated in Birmingham, Stonehenge Gallery in Montgomery, and MacMillan Wingate Antiques and Interiors in Brewton and is a member of the Alabama Plein Air Artists.
